"Making A Way Up And A Way Out"

FourAC, is a parent driven volunteer tutoring and mentoring organization founded by African American men to support and enhance the academic achievement of socially - and financially - disadvantaged or at risk  students (low achieving students) in the Antioch Unified School District  and East Contra Costa County.. The philosophy of FourAC is to provide life managment tools and skills for the students and to foster an environment of parent advocacy for academic success.

Mission statement
The mission of FourAC, is to be a catalyst that forms alliances and fosters academic achievement for socially and financially disadvantaged/at risk students within the Antioch United School District and East County.

Approach
At present time, the FourAC practice is to concentrate on school assigned concepts and assignments to build responsible and accountable performances among the above-mentioned students, the AUSD, and the parents of these students, while also involving interested and pertinent community members.

Statement of Purpose
The rationale behind FourAC is to implement educational and societal values that will help all our children grow, learn and live in our community and society.

We as a "Whole Community" will be held accountable to:

1.  Encourage parenting that will hold the "family" responsible for the achievement of the individual student.

2.  Encourage higher educational and career achievement through higher aspirations for our students by making them aware of the current facts concerning their roles in the community, educational systems and workplace.

3.  Encourage a plan for economic self-sufficiency by improving the student's attitudes towards higher-paying, non-traditional jobs.

4.  Encourage the end of teen pregnancy by delaying parenthood through increasing their knowledge of the economic, social, emotional and physical costs of child rearing.

5.  Discourage self-destructive behaviors by increasing their self-esteem and helping them to visualize rewarding and self-reliant futures.

6.  Provide Mentors from varied backgrounds and careers. Encourage students to accept responsibility and involve themselves in more critical thinking and problem solving.

7.  This is to be accomplished through a calendar of events that are inclusive of workshops, field trips, career panels, student conferences, visitations of college campuses and fun activities.

Student Progress Reports are due every Monday at 4pm !
FourAC Reading and Comprehension program is for all students.  All students are required to bring their Accelarated Reading Book(s) daily.  We will work with the students individualy and in grade-groups.

Why FourAC Works?
The main reason why FourAC works is because of the mandatory parent participation requirement.  Parents are required to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours per month tutoring and mentoring students.  They can not tutor or mentor their own child but rather another parents child.  The cost of this program is free, however FourAC will accept donations.  The donor will receive a letter indicating their donation.
